Plainfield voters approve network at town meeting

The 53 of the 472 voters in Plainfield who showed up for the town’s annual meeting approved funding for a municipal network for the town. Service will start in early 2020 and will be provided and constructed by Whip City Fiber, the Municipal Light Plant for the City of Westfield.

$149,876 in funding was approved to construct the network. So far 162 household have signed up for the service. They need 270 subscribers for the network to be sustainable.

Plainfield has a population of 648 people, as of the 2010 census.

It will cost $85 per month for a 1-gigabit per second upload and download fiber to the home (FTTH) connection . The equipment needed will be provided free to subscribers. Internet telephony will also be available for $12.95 per month.

Business internet services will also be available and will be priced from $100 per month to $800 per month depending on requirements.
